Ganges is a small town in the Hérault department of the Occitanie region in southern France.

With a population of about 3,700 residents, it sits at the confluence of the Hérault and Rieutord rivers and is often known as the “southern gateway to the Cévennes” because of its location between the Mediterranean lowlands and the Cévennes mountains. The town has a long history and became prosperous during the reign of Louis XIV through the production of fine silk stockings.

It also played a role in the religious and social history of the region, particularly during the Protestant Huguenot era. Ganges is surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes, including rivers, gorges, and protected ecological areas. Visitors enjoy outdoor activities such as kayaking, hiking, and exploring the nearby Cévennes countryside.

Today, Ganges serves as a lively local center with markets, cultural events, and services for the surrounding communities, while retaining its historic character and scenic setting.
