Goda Mountains
Tadjourah Region, Djibouti
The Goda Mountains, located northwest of the Gulf of Tadjoura in Djibouti’s Tadjoura Region, rise to 1,750 meters above sea level, forming the country’s largest heavily vegetated area and its second-highest point.
This range stands out as a lush, forested outlier amid Djibouti’s arid semi-desert landscape, hosting unique species like the Djibouti spurfowl and East African juniper, though populations are declining due to climate change, drought, grazing, and human activity.
Part of the area is protected within Day Forest National Park, where Afar communities practice semi-sedentary pastoralism and conservation efforts like tree nurseries and fences help preserve the subtropical highland climate with cooler temperatures and seasonal fog.
