Gone Rural is a social enterprise located in Malkerns Valley, Eswatini, founded in 1992 by Jenny Thorne to empower over 700 rural women artisans through traditional basket weaving and handcraft production.
It provides home-based work, market access, design support, materials, and training, enabling these women in remote communities to earn sustainable incomes from high-quality items like tableware, home decor, lighting, and woven wall art made from local lutindzi grass and other natural materials.
Based at the Malandela’s complex in the fertile, pineapple-rich Malkerns area, it offers visitor experiences such as Tuesday workshop tours and has gained global recognition for blending cultural heritage with contemporary design.
