The Historic Town of Grand-Bassam, located in the Lagunes District of Côte d'Ivoire, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for being the country's first colonial capital from the late 19th to early 20th century. It features well-preserved urban planning with distinct quarters for commerce, administration, and separate housing for Europeans and Africans, reflecting social dynamics of the colonial era.

The town also includes the traditional N’zima fishing village, showcasing the continuity of indigenous culture alongside colonial architecture characterized by functional houses with verandas and gardens. Grand-Bassam was a key port, economic, and judicial center and played an important role in the independence movement.

Despite its shift of political status in the 1890s due to health and environmental issues, it remains a vibrant symbol of cultural interaction and historical significance in Côte d’Ivoire.
