The Ħaġar Qim Temples, located near Qrendi on Malta’s southern coast, are among the oldest free-standing stone structures in the world.

Built between about 3600 and 3200 BC during the Neolithic period, the temples form part of the Megalithic Temples of Malta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its outstanding prehistoric architecture. Constructed from massive limestone blocks, the complex features large chambers, carved stone doorways, altars, and decorative motifs that reveal the remarkable engineering and artistic skills of its ancient builders.

Archaeologists believe the site was used for religious ceremonies and rituals connected to fertility and nature. Perched on a ridge overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the islet of Filfla, Ħaġar Qim combines historical significance with a spectacular setting.
