Heks Castle
Heers, Belgium, Belgium
Heks Castle (Kasteel van Heks) is one of Belgium’s most beautiful and best‑preserved 18th‑century châteaux, located in the village of Heks in the municipality of Heers, province of Limburg, Wallonia.
The palace‑like building was commissioned in 1770 by Prince‑Bishop François‑Charles de Velbrück of Liège and erected in just two years by the Liège architect Etienne Fayen, replacing an earlier 13th‑century manor and creating a grand country residence in the scenic Haspengouw (Hesbaye) region.
The château is a U‑shaped, two‑storey structure with a symmetrical façade of nineteen windows, surrounded by a formal French garden complex and a large English‑style landscape park originally laid out with features such as a Chinese garden, a kitchen garden, a rose garden and later an expansive countryside park, marking one of the first landscaped parks on the European mainland inspired by the English models of Capability Brown.
