Hingsange
Grostenquin, France
Hingsange was the site of a castle located near the village of Grostenquin in the Moselle department of Lorraine, France. The castle, first mentioned in records from 1266, originally consisted of four buildings arranged around a square courtyard, with round towers and surrounded by moats. It included a tower called Sainte Barbe that housed a private chapel.
The castle suffered significant damage during the wars of the 17th century and was partly rebuilt by the Helmstatt family in the 18th century. It was completely destroyed during the French Revolution and today, only a farm remains on the site.
Historically, Hingsange was part of a lordship that included several surrounding villages and was tied to the abbey of Saint-Avold. Ownership passed through various noble families over the centuries, and after the 17th century, the local lords became vassals of the King of France following the region's political changes. The castle no longer exists, but its history reflects the region's complex feudal and territorial shifts.
