The Holy Monastery of Simonopetra, also known as Simonos Petras or the Monastery of Simon Peter, is one of the most famous monasteries on Mount Athos in northern Greece.

Founded in the 13th century by Saint Simon the Athonite, it is dramatically built atop a massive rock about 330 meters above the sea, making it one of the most spectacular and recognizable monasteries in the Orthodox world. According to tradition, Saint Simon chose the site after experiencing a vision of the Virgin Mary.

Over the centuries, the monastery received support from Byzantine and Serbian rulers, survived several devastating fires, and was repeatedly rebuilt while preserving its spiritual importance. Today, Simonopetra is an active Eastern Orthodox monastery known for its striking architecture, rich collection of manuscripts and sacred relics, and strong monastic traditions.
