Hunaudaye Castle
Plédéliac, France , France
Hunaudaye Castle is a striking medieval fortress located in Plédéliac in the Brittany region of northwestern France.
Originally built around 1220 by the Tournemine family, it was designed to defend a strategic frontier area and became one of the region’s most important strongholds. The castle was destroyed during the War of the Breton Succession in the 14th century but was later rebuilt and expanded with powerful round towers, strong defensive walls, and a surrounding moat.
Over the centuries it evolved from a military fortress into a noble residence before falling into decline and being heavily damaged during the French Revolution in 1793. Today, Hunaudaye Castle is a protected historic monument and one of Brittany’s best-preserved medieval castle ruins. Visitors can explore its towers, ramparts, and courtyards while learning about the region’s history and enjoying views of the surrounding forests and countryside.
