Ilha do Pessegueiro is a small island off the coast of Porto Covo in Portugal, known for its rich historical significance and natural beauty. The island was first occupied by the Carthaginians and later by the Romans, who established a fish processing center there with remains of salt tanks still visible.

In the late 16th century, construction began on a fort to defend the coast from pirates, but the project remained unfinished. The island and nearby coastline were part of an important defensive system with forts protecting the area against corsairs.

Today, Ilha do Pessegueiro is part of the Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina Natural Park, attracting visitors for its scenic landscapes, archaeological ruins, and connections to local legends, including the story of the "Burnt Virgin."

Porto Covo, the nearby village, has evolved from a traditional fishing village into a popular tourist destination, especially in summer when it bursts with visitors exploring the island and nearby beaches.
