Kasteel Carolinaberg, also known as Karolinaberg, is a historic castle and estate in Stokkem, part of Dilsen-Stokkem in Limburg, Belgium, situated on the left bank of the Meuse where for centuries a fortified stronghold repeatedly played a role in the region’s political and military affairs.

The site originated around 1036 with the construction of a Loon castle called Nieuwenborgh on a natural height by the river, which became a frequent residence of the Counts of Loon and where Count Dirk van Heinsberg died in 1361, making it a key location during the Loonese succession conflicts and later Loon-Liège struggles.

In the 16th century the fortress was altered by Erard de la Marck, but in September 1702 it was completely destroyed by the forces of the Duke of Marlborough during the Wars of the Succession, and although grachten and parts of the surrounding wall remained, the medieval donjon and buildings were lost, leaving only archaeological traces under the later park and landscape.

On these ruins in 1878 the arrondissementscommissaris F. Caïmo from Tongeren bought the site and erected the present Kasteel Carolinaberg as a memorial to his late wife Carolina de la Brassinne, transforming what had once been a military stronghold into a residential country house set within a landscaped park.
