Kasteel de Pierpont is a late‑Classical country house, often called a “castle”, in the centre of Herk‑de‑Stad in the Belgian province of Limburg, located at Pikkeleerstraat and just outside the main village built‑up area.

It was built in the first half of the 19th century as a modest, elegant residence and originally belonged to the noble family de Pierpont, whose name the estate now bears, and it later became known locally as the family’s town lodge and symbol of civic status in Herk‑de‑Stad. In modern times the main wing of the building was converted into the municipality’s town hall, so the formerly private castle now functions as the administrative heart of Herk‑de‑Stad while retaining its original architectural character.

The surrounding park, originally part of the 19th‑century estate of the castle, was later developed into a public domain together with an older tree nursery and an arboretum laid out in 1913, creating a landscape‑style park with lawns, ponds, tree groups and walking paths that is now known as Domein Olmenhof‑Harlaz and is used for recreation, a mini‑golf course and a small animal park.

Thus, Kasteel de Pierpont combines a historic 19th‑century residence, a civic function as the town hall, and a setting in a protected cultural‑historical landscape that links the castle’s noble past with the everyday public life and green spaces of Herk‑de‑Stad.
