Kasteel De Warande
Heuvelland, Belgium, Belgium
Kasteel De Warande is a 20th‑century castle located in Kemmel, part of the municipality of Heuvelland in West Flanders, Belgium, built in 1925 on the slope of the Kemmelberg in the hills near the French border.
It was commissioned by Baron Jacques Bruneel de la Warande, who had served as mayor of Kemmel, and was designed by the architects Charles Pil and Henri Carbon in a neo‑Renaissance style using the region’s typical yellow brick.
The present castle replaced an earlier one that was destroyed in 1918 during the First World War, and it features a U‑shaped layout with two main floors, an attic, and several small round towers. After serving for decades as a holiday residence and later as a hotel‑restaurant, the building became the main town hall of Heuvelland in 1979 and is now protected as a listed monument.
