Kasteel Terlaemen
Heusden-Zolder, Belgium, Belgium
Kasteel Terlaemen is a classicist manor castle in the hamlet of Viversel, part of the municipality of Heusden-Zolder in the Belgian province of Limburg, located at Terlaemenlaan 125.
Its core was built around 1750 as a hunting lodge by Count Jean de Borchgraeve, and in a late‑classical style with a symmetrical white façade, a central block topped by a fronton, and two side wings added in 1811 by the Palmers de Terlamen family after they acquired the estate.
The castle stands on a large, water‑rich estate of about 142 hectares, where more than 50 hectares are taken up by fish ponds that were originally dug for iron ore and now form part of the De Wijers landscape, while the remaining land is covered with pine and deciduous forests and heathland, and the castle grounds themselves include a 2.5‑hectare park and garden.
From the nearby main road and from the Bolderberg area the castle can be seen as a striking white building set in a green, water‑filled landscape, making it a well‑known local landmark in the De Wijers region of central Limburg.
