King's Blockhouse
Constantia, Cape Town, South Africa, South Africa
King’s Blockhouse is a small stone fort and signal post on the slopes of Devil’s Peak above Cape Town, built by the British around 1795–1796 as part of a defensive line linking Table Bay and False Bay.
It formed one of several blockhouses erected along the “French Line” to watch for enemy ships and movements, using flag signals to pass messages between the mountain and the coast. Positioned high on the ridge, it offers wide views over the city, harbour and peninsula.
Although now a roofless ruin it remains a well-known hiking destination accessible via steep paths from areas such as Rhodes Memorial, attracting visitors interested in both Cape military history and Table Mountain scenery.
