Kouklia is a small village in the Paphos District of Cyprus, built on the site of ancient Palaepaphos (Old Paphos), one of the island’s most important archaeological and religious centers.

It is traditionally associated with the birthplace and worship of Aphrodite, the ancient Greek goddess of love and beauty, and was a major pilgrimage destination in the ancient world. From around 1200 BC, Palaepaphos served as a powerful city-kingdom and the location of the famous Sanctuary of Aphrodite, which remained an important place of worship for many centuries.

Because of its outstanding historical and cultural significance, the site was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1980. Today, Kouklia combines traditional Cypriot village charm with remarkable archaeological remains, including ancient ruins, medieval structures, and a museum. It offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore the rich history, mythology, and cultural heritage of Cyprus.
