Lagoa das Sete Cidades
Portugal, Portugal
Lagoa das Sete Cidades is a large twin lake in the top of an old volcanic crater on the island of São Miguel, in the Azores archipelago of Portugal.
It consists of two connected bodies of water, often called Lagoa Verde (Green Lake) and Lagoa Azul (Blue Lake), separated by a narrow isthmus and a small low bridge that gives them their famous two‑tone appearance from the classic viewpoints.
The lagoon is the largest natural freshwater lake in the Azores, set in a lush, green caldera surrounded by steep forested slopes and small farms, and is protected as a landscape and wetland area within the Azores Global Geopark. It is one of the most iconic natural sights in Portugal, widely photographed and visited for scenic drives, viewpoints, boat trips, and short walks around the rim and the small village of Sete Cidades nearby.
