Lavardin is a small, picturesque village in the Loir-et-Cher department of the Loire Valley and is officially recognized as one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France (The Most Beautiful Villages of France).

Nestled along the Loir River, it is celebrated for its remarkably preserved medieval character and scenic countryside setting. The village is dominated by the ruins of the Château de Lavardin, a medieval fortress that once resisted Richard the Lionheart and later played an important role in regional history. 

Its towers and 26‑meter-high keep still overlook the village today, creating one of the area's most distinctive landmarks. Lavardin is also known for the Romanesque Church of Saint-Genest, which contains remarkable medieval frescoes dating from the 12th to the 16th centuries. Visitors can wander through narrow streets lined with Gothic and Renaissance houses, cross the historic Gothic bridge over the Loir, and discover traditional troglodyte dwellings carved into the hillsides.
