Le château de Gombervaux is a medieval fortified castle located near Vaucouleurs in the Meuse department of northeastern France.

Built between 1338 and 1357, it served as both a noble residence and a defensive stronghold on the frontier between the Kingdom of France and the Duchy of Lorraine. The castle is known for its impressive gatehouse tower, corner towers, and water-filled moat fed by natural springs. Although parts of the complex were lost over time and some stones were taken for reuse in nearby villages, significant remains still survive and give a clear impression of its former grandeur.

Gombervaux played a role in regional history and hosted important events, including a gathering linked to the Treaty of Vaucouleurs in 1367. After centuries of decline and abandonment, local preservation efforts began in 1989, helping to restore and protect the site. Today, the château is a protected historic monument and a popular heritage attraction, valued for its medieval architecture, scenic setting, and cultural events that bring the site’s history to life.
