Lemesos Castle, also known as Limassol Castle, is a historic fortress located near the old harbor in Limassol, Cyprus.

The castle stands on a site that has been occupied since the Byzantine period and was rebuilt and modified by several rulers, including the Lusignans, Venetians, and Ottomans, reflecting the island’s long and complex history. According to local tradition, Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria of Navarre here in 1191 and crowned her Queen of England, making the castle one of the most famous medieval landmarks in Cyprus.

Today, the castle houses the Cyprus Medieval Museum, which features artifacts such as weapons, coins, ceramics, jewelry, tombstones, and religious objects that illustrate Cyprus’s history from the early Christian era through the medieval and Ottoman periods. It is one of the island’s most important cultural and historical attractions.
