Livingston is a unique town on Guatemala’s Caribbean coast in the Izabal Department, situated at the mouth of the Río Dulce on the Gulf of Honduras. It is known for its diverse cultural mix, including Garífuna, Afro-Caribbean, Maya, and Ladino communities, creating a vibrant and distinctive atmosphere. Accessible only by boat, there are no roads connecting it to other parts of the country, which adds to its charm and isolation.

Historically, it was once Guatemala’s main Caribbean port before the nearby Puerto Barrios was developed. Today, Livingston has a growing tourism industry with lively streets, a relaxed Caribbean vibe, white sandy beaches, and nearby natural attractions like the Seven Altars waterfalls.

While parts of the town show signs of poverty and its infrastructure can be basic, the local community is welcoming, and the blend of cultures, languages, and coastal setting make it a captivating destination.
