Maison Forte de Damré
Sprimont, Belgium, Belgium
The Maison Forte de Damré is a small, fortified medieval house in the hamlet of Damré, part of the municipality of Sprimont in the province of Liège, Wallonia, Belgium, built at the beginning of the 15th century and now a listed historic monument.
It dates from the period when Damré was a tiny enclave of the Principality of Stavelot‑Malmedy (in the county of Logne) within the Duchy of Limburg, and it served as a local stronghold and residence for the authority representing that principality in the area.
The building is constructed of greywacke and limestone, has four roughly equal façades of about 12 metres, four storeys including a visible basement and an elevated ground floor, and a four‑sided slate roof, with two projecting corner watchtowers (échauguettes) pierced by meurtrières (slit openings) on the south‑west and north‑east angles, giving it a clearly defensive character.
