Verified Manoir de Lébioles

Spa, Belgium, Belgium

Manoir de Lébioles is a grand, castle-like manor house in the hamlet of Creppe, a quarter of Spa in the Belgian Ardennes, famous today as a luxury five-star hotel and spa while retaining a rich historical legacy.

Built between 1905 and 1910 for the diplomat Georges Neyt, it was designed in a romantic château style with towers, turrets and ivy-clad brick and stone façades, quickly earning the nickname “little Versailles of the Ardennes” after its sale in 1912 to Edmond Dresse, who and his family continued to enlarge and decorate it over several decades.

The manor’s most notable historical moment came in 1918, when the German Emperor Wilhelm II abdicated there after his defeat in the First World War, and in 1945 it briefly served as a detention site for high-ranking Allied prisoners of war, including former German politician Franz von Papen and Hungarian leader Admiral Miklós Horthy.

After falling into decline in the late 1990s, it was fully restored with careful attention to its original features, including wide fireplaces, historic staircases, and 120-year-old windows, and reopened as an elegant boutique hotel with 16 unique rooms and suites, a gourmet restaurant, and a large Valmont spa with pool, hammam, sauna, jacuzzi and massage treatments, set within a wooded estate overlooking forests and gardens.
