Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden, located on Palm Creek Road in Tanawha on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, is a magnificent 82-hectare native bushland garden that serves as a haven for local plants and animals, featuring a stunning mix of natural forest, manicured native gardens, nature play spaces, and art installations.
The garden showcases diverse ecosystems including native eucalypt open forest, creek-side rainforest, lagoons, rocky and palm-filled gullies, and the headwaters of Mountain Creek, with iconic eucalypts, lush palms, and diverse rare native plants throughout. Visitors can explore feature gardens with botanical and sculptural beauty, enjoy the Whipbird precinct's bush cubbies, obstacle challenges, hidden artworks, picnic platforms, and sensory delights, or take the 0.5km Whipbird Walk—a safe, basic-level children's adventure trail perfect for all ages to discover hidden secrets, giant spiders, exotic butterflies, and native bush in a small area.
The garden includes a fully operational Arts and Ecology Centre notable for its sustainable design, undercover areas and toilets for picnics, barbecue facilities where visitors can bring their own equipment, and is free to visit with onsite parking available, though no dogs are permitted and no rubbish bins are provided to reduce scavengers.
Owned and maintained by Sunshine Coast Council with assistance from the Friends of Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Gardens Inc (volunteers established in 1996), the gardens offer guided tours at 9 am each Tuesday (excluding public holidays and December/January) and are a family favourite for outings and weddings, with entry only via Palm Creek Road and no public transport available.
