Matosinhos is a coastal city and municipality in the Porto district of northern Portugal, located about 8 kilometers north of Porto's city center at the mouth of the Leça River. It covers an area of around 62 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 172,000 people.

Historically a fishing and salt production hub, Matosinhos remains Portugal's most important fishing port while evolving into a diverse industrial and service-oriented economy, including one of the country’s largest container ports. The city features sandy beaches popular for surfing and leisure, historic landmarks such as Bom Jesus de Matosinhos church and Castelo do Queijo fort, and architecturally notable sites like Piscina das Marés, a saltwater swimming pool designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira.

Matosinhos is also famous for its vibrant seafood culture with bustling markets and family-run fish restaurants, offering some of the freshest seafood in Portugal.
