Mirapolis
Courdimanche, France, France
Mirapolis was a short-lived theme park in Courdimanche, Val-d'Oise, France, opened in 1987 and closed in 1991 after struggling with finances and low attendance despite ambitions to rival Disneyland as France's first major amusement park.
Spanning 55 hectares with 20-50 attractions including three roller coasters, water rides, and themed areas inspired by French literature like Gargantua—featuring a massive statue housing a dark ride, it drew crowds for shows, shops, and family fun but faced bad weather and competition from emerging parks like Parc Astérix.
Mostly demolished by 1993, with remnants like the Gargantua head dynamited in 1995, the abandoned site became an urban exploration icon amid overgrown ruins and repurposed roads.
