Montfort is a historic village area in the Dordogne region of southwestern France, best known for the striking Château de Montfort, which stands on a rocky promontory overlooking a dramatic bend of the Dordogne River known as the Cingle de Montfort.

The castle's commanding location offers some of the most scenic views in the Périgord countryside. The château has a long and turbulent history, having been captured, destroyed, and rebuilt several times since the Middle Ages. It played a role in the Albigensian Crusade, the Hundred Years' War, and later religious conflicts, making it one of the region's most historically significant fortifications.

Today, Montfort is admired for its medieval character, spectacular riverside setting, and rich heritage. Although the castle is privately owned, it remains a landmark of the Dordogne Valley and a favorite sight for visitors exploring the historic villages and landscapes of the region.
