Montmorency

France, France

Montmorency is a historic town in the Val-d’Oise department of the Île-de-France region. With a population of around 21,700 residents, it is known as an attractive residential suburb set on hilly terrain overlooking the Paris region. The town was once the seat of the powerful House of Montmorency, one of the oldest noble families in France. It later became a popular retreat for writers, artists, and aristocrats, including the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau, who lived there in the 18th century and left a lasting cultural legacy. Montmorency is also famous for its sour cherries, known as Montmorency cherries, and for its green surroundings, including parks and the nearby Montmorency Forest. Despite being part of the Paris metropolitan area, it retains a peaceful character with historic buildings, villas, and abundant open spaces.
