Mornington Botanical Rose Gardens
Mornington, Australia
Mornington Botanical Rose Gardens in Mornington, Australia, opened officially in 2008, were inspired by the local yachting history and designed by landscaper Barry Johnston.
The garden features over 3,500 roses planted in more than 80 beds, arranged to resemble a racing yacht's spinnaker when viewed from the garden’s elevated platform. The project was initiated by local businessman Don Gordon, with extensive volunteer involvement and recycled water irrigation supporting the garden through challenging conditions like drought.
The garden includes a heritage garden with a reflective pond showcasing roses from the David Rusden collection and the Don Gordon Garden Room as a community hub. It has received international recognition and serves as a popular, beautifully maintained space for relaxation and rose appreciation, free to the public year-round.
