Moustier-Ventadour is a small commune in the Corrèze department of central France, best known for the impressive ruins of the Château de Ventadour, a medieval fortress that overlooks the surrounding valleys from a rocky hilltop. The castle was established in the 11th century and became the seat of the powerful Viscounts of Ventadour. It played an important role in regional history and was also associated with the flourishing of Occitan culture and troubadour poetry, including the famous poet Bernart de Ventadour. Although much of the fortress is now in ruins, visitors can still see sections of the ramparts, towers, a noble residence, and the remains of a chapel. Restoration and archaeological work have helped preserve the site and reveal more of its history. Today, Moustier-Ventadour is valued for its rich medieval heritage, scenic natural setting, and its connection to one of the most important historic castles in the Limousin region.
