Mursay is a historic estate and château located in Échiré, near Niort in the Deux-Sèvres department of western France. Originally built in the 16th century on the banks of the Sèvre Niortaise River, it is closely associated with the renowned writer and soldier Agrippa d’Aubigné, whose family lived there for many generations. The château is also linked to Madame de Maintenon, the future wife of King Louis XIV, who was raised by relatives connected to the estate. Over time, the property fell into disrepair and today survives as a picturesque ruin surrounded by parkland and historic pathways. Recognized as a French historic monument since 1952, the site has benefited from ongoing preservation efforts by local organizations and public authorities. Today, Mursay is appreciated for its Renaissance heritage, scenic riverside setting, and its connections to important figures in French history, making it a notable cultural landmark in the region.
