Ninety Mile Beach
Australia, Australia
Ninety Mile Beach is a vast, relatively straight stretch of golden sand along the south‑eastern coast of Victoria, Australia, facing the open waters of Bass Strait and backing the Gippsland Lakes.
It runs for about 151 kilometres from near Port Albert in the south‑west to the man‑made channel at Lakes Entrance in the north‑east, making it one of the longest continuous beaches in the country. The shore is backed by long sandy dunes that separate the large inland Gippsland Lakes system from the sea, and the area is mostly undeveloped, with no rocky headlands, giving it a flat, open, windswept feel.
It is popular for walking, beach driving, fishing, camping, swimming in calmer sections, and wildlife watching, and part of the coastline falls within the Ninety Mile Beach Marine National Park, which protects both the dune strip and the rich offshore sandy seabed.
