Njegoš Mausoleum is a monumental tomb located at the summit of Mount Lovćen in Montenegro, built in honor of Petar II Petrović-Njegoš, a poet, philosopher, and ruler who is a key cultural and historical figure of Montenegro.

Designed by Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović, it was completed in 1974 at an altitude of about 1,660 meters, replacing an earlier chapel Njegoš had built and intended for his burial. Visitors reach the mausoleum after climbing a dramatic 461-step staircase that winds through a marble tunnel, rewarded with panoramic views of Montenegro and the surrounding Adriatic landscape.

The mausoleum combines neoclassical and Art Deco architectural elements, featuring an imposing statue of Njegoš at the entrance and a richly decorated crypt where his remains lie in a marble sarcophagus. The interior walls of the crypt are adorned with thousands of gold leaf particles, symbolizing the significance of Njegoš’s legacy. The site stands as a powerful symbol of Montenegrin national identity, cultural pride, and Njegoš’s enduring impact on the country’s history and literature.
