Okomu National Park, located in Edo State, Nigeria, is one of the country’s most important rainforest conservation areas and protects a rare remnant of the lowland forests that once covered much of southern Nigeria. Situated about 60 kilometers from Benin City, the park is home to endangered wildlife such as the white-throated monkey, Niger Delta red colobus monkey, forest elephants, buffalo, and numerous bird and butterfly species. Despite being Nigeria’s smallest national park, it is rich in biodiversity and offers visitors opportunities for forest walks, birdwatching, wildlife observation, and canopy views from treehouses. The park plays a vital role in preserving Nigeria’s natural heritage and protecting threatened rainforest ecosystems.
