Pangarinda Botanic Garden
Wellington East, Australia, Australia
Pangarinda Botanic Garden is a community-created dryland botanic garden located on Pangarinda Drive in Wellington East, South Australia, near the Murray River, that was established in 1993 by local members of the Australian Plant Society and has transformed 25 to 30 hectares of weedy, eroved Crown land into a beautifully maintained space featuring one of the finest regional collections of Australian plants.
The garden primarily showcases plants from Western and South Australia, with a special mission to conserve Australia's threatened flora, prioritizing species from the highly modified drier agricultural regions of southern mainland Australia. Visitors can explore an extensive network of marked walking trails throughout the property, making it an easy walk suitable for families and seniors, with public toilets, parking, and other facilities nearby, and it is dog-friendly as long as dogs are kept on a lead.
The garden is particularly notable for its huge collection of flowering hakeas (best seen in winter), diverse eucalypts, native pines, and other Australian native plants, and it has become a significant birdwatching location where visitors can hear and see Superb Fairy Wrens, White-browed Babblers, various honeyeater species, pardalotes, Silvereyes, small quails, Robin Red Breasts, and Golden Whistlers.
