Platamon Castle is one of the best-preserved medieval fortresses in Greece, located near Mount Olympus and overlooking the Aegean Sea in the region of Pieria.

Built in the early 13th century on a strategically important hill, it controlled the passage between Macedonia and southern Greece through the Tempe Valley. The castle was constructed on a site with a much older history, possibly the location of the ancient city of Herakleion. Over the centuries, it was occupied by Crusaders, Byzantines, Venetians, and Ottomans, reflecting the region’s importance as a military and transportation gateway.

Today, visitors can explore its impressive walls, towers, and central keep while enjoying panoramic views of the sea and surrounding landscape. The castle is a major cultural landmark and regularly hosts events and performances, combining historical significance with a dramatic natural setting.
