Playa Blanca is a popular beach located on the Barú Peninsula, about 40 minutes from Cartagena, Colombia, by boat. It is not inside Cartagena itself, but its close distance makes it a favorite day-trip destination for many travelers. You can get there by speedboat, bus, taxi, or private car. The boat ride is usually the fastest, while buses and cars take about an hour.

The main attraction of Playa Blanca is its bright turquoise water and soft, white sand. Visitors come here to swim in the warm Caribbean Sea, relax on the sand, eat fresh seafood, and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere. There are simple restaurants and vendors selling food and drinks along the beach. Some beach clubs, like Mambo Beach, provide facilities such as bathrooms and sunbeds for a higher level of comfort.

However, Playa Blanca has become extremely popular, and this has brought both good and bad changes. It can get very crowded, especially on weekends and holidays. Many people visit at the same time, and there are lots of vendors on the beach. This has caused problems like too much development, little space left on the sand, and some garbage pollution. If you prefer a quieter experience, it is best to avoid busy dates, or walk towards the far end of the beach, sometimes called Playa Tranquila, which is less crowded.

Despite its issues, Playa Blanca remains famous for its natural beauty. The sea here is calm and clear, making it good for swimming and water activities. Most visitors find the place safe but are advised to keep an eye on their belongings and be careful with prices for food and services.
