Praia Baleal – Sul (also called Baleal Sul or Praia do Sul) is a 4‑kilometer-long ocean beach on the south side of the Baleal peninsula, in Ferrel, municipality of Peniche, Portugal, located about 5 km north of Peniche and 90 km from Lisbon, widely known as Portugal’s surfing center and a top spot for beginners and all-level surfers.

The beach sits in a sheltered bay between Baleal and Peniche, offering multiple surf peaks along its length—Gambôa and Cerro (south, near Peniche, with smaller fun waves), Meio da Baía (middle, catching most of the swell and producing powerful, high-quality waves with barrels), and Cantinho da Baía (north, a consistent beach break with mellow lefts and rights for all levels)—and it enjoys side‑offshore summer winds that make surf possible year‑round.

Baleal itself is a small peninsula (once an island) separated from the mainland by a tombolo, with fine white sand, calm waters, and excellent conditions for surfing, bodyboarding, and water sports, and in the past it was a whaling site where whales were cut and carved on their migratory route.
