Praia da Boca do Rio, which means "River Mouth Beach," is a small, tranquil beach located in the municipality of Vila do Bispo in the western Algarve, nestled in a valley where three streams (Ribeira de Vale Barão, Ribeira de Vale de Boi, and Ribeira de Budens) converge to form a wetland area called Paul da Lontreira.

The beach is situated within the protected Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina (Vicentine Coast Natural Park), featuring white sand measuring about 150 meters long and 20 meters wide, with dramatic dolomitic limestone cliffs and an average summer water temperature of 22°C. 

Boca do Rio was once an important Roman villa, and visitors can still see traces of frescoes, mosaics, bathhouses, warehouses, and a fish salting factory with two associated cemeteries, suggesting it was likely a fishing port in ancient times. The beach has no lifeguards, no beach support facilities, and no umbrella rentals, but offers a paved parking lot with about 40 spaces and is accessible by a 5-minute drive from Budens or a 30-minute coastal walk from Salema along the cliffs. 

The wetland area is rich in biodiversity, particularly birdlife, and is home to otters that frequently visit the marine zone—a rare habit for these typically riverine mammals—while a small lagoon often forms at the river mouth during summer, creating a freshwater pool that children and dogs enjoy.
