Praia da Carriagem
Portugal, Portugal
Praia da Carriagem (also spelled Carreagem) is a small, secluded beach on the wild west coast of the Algarve, near the village of Rogil and within the Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina Natural Park.
It sits at the base of steep cliffs, reached by a long, steep path and staircase from a car park above, which keeps it quiet and off‑main‑tourist routes. The beach is narrow, with a mix of sand and gravel, unusual black‑schist rock formations, and a striking natural rock “amphitheatre” visible at low tide, making it more of a scenic and walking destination than a classic swimming spot.
There are no lifeguards or beach facilities, so visitors need to bring their own supplies and should be cautious about entering the water, which is considered risky for swimming but attracts some kitesurfers and bodyboarders on suitable days.
