Praia da Coelha
Portugal, Portugal
Praia da Coelha (English: Rabbit Beach) is a small, sheltered, and secluded golden-sand cove hidden between dramatic honeycomb cliffs about 5 kilometers (3 miles) west of Albufeira's old town center in the Algarve, Portugal.
The beach has a bay shape roughly 740 meters long, surrounded by big rock formations that protect it from strong winds, making it a relatively calm and wind-protected spot with turquoise blue, clear waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling. It is a Blue Flag beach, ensuring clean and safe water and sand, and is popular with locals, young tourists, and families, often staying relatively quiet during the week though it can get crowded on weekends.
The beach features fine golden sand ideal for children to dig in and collect shells, with facilities including a beach restaurant and bar (open mid-March to early November), lifeguard service during summer, sunbed and umbrella rentals, restrooms, showers, and even a masseuse offering therapeutic massages.
Access requires driving to a clifftop parking lot and then taking a short but steep walk down a field path with long wooden steps through olive trees and bamboo groves to reach the sand. While generally calm, visitors should be careful with children in the water as there is a steep drop further out and currents can be strong, and there are great hiking routes along the clifftops to neighboring beaches for those who want to explore.
