Praia da Fábrica
Vila Nova de Cacela, Portugal, Portugal
Praia da Fábrica (also called Praia de Cacela Velha or Praia do Sítio da Fábrica) is a secluded, nearly wild beach on Cacela Island near Vila Nova de Cacela in the eastern Algarve of Portugal.
The beach is a long, narrow strip of soft white and golden sand stretching about 1–1.1 km in the middle of the sea, surrounded by the tranquil waters of the Ria Formosa lagoon on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other, with no buildings, sunbeds, cafés, or beach bars, giving it an untouched, peaceful feel.
It sits within the Ria Formosa Natural Park and is known for its pristine dunes, rich flora, and seabirds like the shore plover and common tern. Access requires crossing the lagoon by small boat (water taxi) from Sítio da Fábrica in Cacela Velha, or by wading during low tide, which adds to its charm and keeps it quiet even in peak summer.
The nearby picturesque fishing village of Cacela Velha, perched on a cliff with whitewashed houses and an old church, offers stunning panoramic views over the lagoon and beach from its historic fortifications. Praia da Fábrica is ideal for travelers seeking solitude, natural beauty, and a raw coastal experience rather than amenities or nightlife.
