Praia da Ladeira (which includes both Norte and Sul sections) is an extensive sandy beach integrated into the urban area of Vila do Conde, approximately 40 minutes north of Porto. The beach features a large sandy stretch with a notable large islet visible about 200 meters off the coast, and during low tide, small pools of calm water form in the rocks in the southern area.

The beach is surveilled with lifeguards during the bathing season, though depending on the year and lifeguard distribution, the northern section may occasionally be designated as unsupervised, and the southern area can develop strong currents in certain spots. Vila do Conde's coastline experiences traditional afternoon northern winds (nortadas) common to Portugal's northwest coast, which tend to calm down later in the day.
