Praia da Pedra do Ouro
Portugal, Portugal
Praia da Pedra do Ouro is a long, relatively quiet Atlantic beach on Portugal’s Silver Coast, located in the parish of Pataias, in the municipality of Alcobaça, about halfway between Figueira da Foz and Nazaré.
It has a broad stretch of fine golden sand, often backed by dark, fossil‑rich cliffs that give the beach its name, since “Pedra do Ouro” (Gold Stone) comes from golden‑coloured ammonite fossils found in the rock face.
The area is known for good water quality and several environmental awards, making it a clean, family‑friendly spot for swimming and sunbathing when the tide is high, while at low tide the expanded shoreline and small natural rock pools become popular with children.
Facilities are modest but present, with a café or bar, toilets and showers, and the solitary old windmill at the northern end adds a picturesque, slightly rustic charm to an otherwise straightforward, scenic beach day.
