Praia das Pedras Brancas
Lavra, Portugal, Portugal
Praia das Pedras Brancas is an oceanic beach located in Lavra, within the Matosinhos municipality of Portugal's Porto district on the country's northwest coast along the Atlantic Ocean.
The beach features an extensive stretch of white sand with numerous rocks both on the sand and in the sea, which gives it its name ("white rocks"), and it is surrounded by significant dune pressure. A fascinating historical feature is the presence of a German submarine sunk during World War II located just a few meters from the coast, making it a unique point of interest for visitors.
The beach is well-equipped with amenities including Blue Flag certification for water quality, lifeguard surveillance during bathing season, umbrella rentals, showers, outdoor parking, a bar, and restaurant facilities. It offers excellent conditions for water sports such as surfing, bodyboarding, and diving, and is recognized as a handicapped-accessible beach with Zero Pollution certification.
Wooden walkways serve the beach, facilitating access without damaging the fragile dune system, and the beach is located in a slightly pronounced cove bathed by normally stirred sea waters, with the Corgo Stream flowing into the sea further south.
