Praia de Rei Cortiço
Portugal, Portugal
Praia do Rei Cortiço is a quiet, secluded ocean beach on Portugal’s west coast near Óbidos and the town of Vau, between Óbidos and Peniche, with a long, vast sandy stretch that extends about 11 km south to Baleal.
Backed by a beautiful cliff with curious erosion-sculpted formations that act as a natural windbreak, the beach offers a peaceful, uncrowded setting with fine sand, clear water, and strong Atlantic waves that make it a favorite spot for surfers and bodyboarders.
It is easily accessible via the Estrada do Rei Cortiço, with outdoor parking and wooden stairs leading down to the sand, a small bar on the beach, EEC Blue Flag certification, lifeguard or surveillance service during the bathing season, and nearby facilities such as the West Cliffs Golf Course with ocean views, making it ideal for relaxing walks, sunbathing, and water sports in a scenic, natural environment.
