Praia do Carvalhal
Portugal, Portugal
Praia do Carvalhal is a huge, unspoiled sandy beach nestled along the rugged coastline of Portugal's Alentejo region near the charming village of São Torpes and the town of Carvalhal in Grândola, featuring an enormous expanse of golden sand surrounded by dunes and bathed by calm, safe waters.
The beach is located within the Troia-Grândola Special Protection Zone and is bordered by dunes and rice paddies that are home to many species of insects, birds, and flowers, making it a natural haven for wildlife. Accessible via good tarmac road access through beautiful landscapes where pine forests replace rice fields, and only 10 kilometers from the A2 motorway that connects Lisbon to the Algarve, the beach is becoming increasingly popular, especially for day-trippers from Lisbon, and its parking lot fills up very quickly during peak times.
The beach holds Blue Flag status, ensuring excellent environmental quality, and offers comprehensive facilities including lifeguard surveillance during bathing season, sunbed and umbrella rentals, showers, a beach bar, restaurants (including two very good beach restaurants), free outdoor parking, and services for surfing, bodyboarding, and windsurfing, plus it is accessible for people with reduced mobility.
The average seawater temperature in summer is 17–19°C, and the beach is perfect for families, surfers, and those seeking a spacious, scenic beach experience with rustic charm and modern comfort, including horseback riding on the golden sands andSurf school for beginners and experienced surfers.
