Praia Fluvial de Alburrica
Barreiro, Portugal, Portugal
Praia Fluvial de Alburrica is a small, tranquil river beach in Barreiro, Setúbal, on the Tagus River estuary in Portugal, formed on a tiny peninsula where the Rio Coina meets the Tagus, and part of Barreiro’s river area alongside Praia do Clube Naval and Bico do Mexilhoeiro.
It is set in a calm bay with fine, light-colored sand and clear, gentle waters, offering excellent panoramic views of Seixal and the Tagus, with little islets that host nesting birds, and it is a well-preserved natural spot that the city revitalized to blend with the historic riverside character.
The beach is famous for hosting Barreiro’s traditional windmills—Gigante, Poente, and Nascente—whose iconic trio defines the landscape and history of the area, and it includes a children’s playground, beach support services, and a beachfront esplanade/restaurant where you can sit and admire the river and Lisbon across the water.
Alburrica stretches about 560 meters facing Lisbon with the Vasco da Gama Bridge on the horizon, is very popular with local families especially at low tide (when children can play in the mudflats), and extends to Bico do Mexilhoeiro where a beach soccer field has been added, making it a spacious, clean, and lively family-friendly destination.
