Praia João de Arens is a secluded, romantic sandy beach in Alvor, Portugal, nestled under dramatic limestone cliffs and largely hidden from the crowds of nearby Portimão.

The beach consists of two sections connected by a natural tunnel carved through the rock formations, with stunning views from the clifftop overlooking the Algarve coastline. Named after a local shepherd who lived near the cliffs during the region's early development, it has become an unofficial naturist (clothing-optional) beach, popular with both straight and gay couples seeking privacy and tranquility.

Authorities have not recognized it as an official beach due to difficult access and rockfall risk, but this has kept it a well-kept secret that most travel guides don't mention. Access requires navigating narrow cliffside paths, so sturdy shoes are essential, and visitors must bring their own water and food since there are no facilities—no bathrooms, bars, restaurants, lifeguards, or equipment rentals.

The water is typically calm and crystal-clear, making it excellent for snorkeling and exploring underwater caves and rock formations at low tide. You can park near the end of Caminho da Praia do João de Arens, about a 10-minute drive from Portimão center and less than 10 minutes from Alvor.
