Rotuma is a remote volcanic island and Fijian dependency located about 465 kilometers north-northwest of Viti Levu in the South Pacific, at the crossroads of Polynesia, Micronesia, and Melanesia, spanning roughly 43 square kilometers with surrounding islets and a highest point of 256 meters.

Known for its lush tropical vegetation, black basaltic cliffs, white sandy beaches, fertile soil supporting rainforests and coconut plantations, and a wet tropical climate with high rainfall, it hosts around 1,900 indigenous Rotumans across 14 villages centered near Motusa port.
